Isolating Layers

Use the IsolateLayer command to isolate Layers by hiding Layers. When you hide Layers, you cannot edit entities on these Layers. For sheet Viewports, you can determine whether Layers are turned off or frozen.

Additionally, you can determine whether to fade entities on locked layers to contrast them with entities on unlocked layers and reduce the display complexity of the drawing.

To reverse the Layer isolation, use the UnisolateLayer command.

To isolate one or more Layers:

  1. Click Format > Layer Tools > Isolate Layer (or type IsolateLayer).
  2. Do one of the following:
  3. In the graphics area, select entities you want to isolate and press Enter.

Only those Layers matching the selected entities remain visible.

To fade entities on locked layers:

  1. Click Format > Layer Tools > Isolate Layer (or type IsolateLayer).
  2. Do one of the following:
  3. Specify the Settings option.
  4. Specify the Lock and fade option.
  5. Specify a value between 0 and 90% where 0% means no fading.
  6. In the graphics area, select entities you want to isolate and press Enter.

Entities on locked layers are faded.

To isolate one or more Layers in a single Viewport on a Sheet:

  1. Click a Sheet tab.
  2. Type ModelMode to switch to Model workspace.
  3. Select a Viewport.
  4. Click Format > Layer Tools > Isolate Layer (or type IsolateLayer).
