Using Comments and Markups

You can leave feedback about the drawing for other team members using comments and markups.

All comments and markups are accessible from the Comments palette. You can add, edit, and delete comments and markups which will be accessible to your colleagues when they open the file. They can reply to your comments, start another discussion, and add their own markups.

Note: You can add comments and markups only in the drawings saved in the Cloud Storage.

User Mentions

Mentions let you draw someones attention to a comment or a markup. You can mention users within comments and picture recordings: type @ in the Description field and select the user to mention from the list of suggestions. Users that you mentioned will receive a notification by email everytime you mention them.

Suggestions include people you have mentioned before, other users from the company network or your team mates. If the user you mention does not exist, mention appears as plain text.

To display the Comments palette:

The Comments Palette

From the Comments palette, you can add, edit, and delete comments which will be accessible to your colleagues when they open the file. All users who have previously opened the drawing will receive a notification when a new comment thread was added. They can reply to your comments or start another discussion. Additionally, all users who commented on the thread receive notifications in the following situations:

To enable notification by email, in the Cloud Storage Explorer, right-click a drawing and select Turn on email notification. Additionally, you can specify the frequency options in Preferences.

The palette contains the following sections:

You can use these toolbar buttons at the top of the palette:

Adding Comments and Markups

To start a new comment thread from the Comments palette:

  1. On the Comments palette, click New comment thread .
  2. Type your comment in the Description field.
  3. Optionally, specify a title.
  4. Optionally, link the comment to an entity:
    1. Click Add entities .
    2. Click Add entities .
    3. In the graphics area, specify the entities to which you want to attach a comment.
    4. Press Enter.

      Note: You can remove entities at any time by clicking Remove entities .

  5. Click Post .

    The comment is created. When another team member will open the drawing, he will see the comment in the list.

  1. In the graphics area, right-click and select Add Comment from the context menu.
  2. On the Comments palette, type your comment in the Description field.
  3. Optionally, specify a title.
  4. Optionally, link the comment to an entity:
    1. Click Add entities .
    2. Click Add entities .
    3. In the graphics area, specify the entities to which you want to attach a comment.
    4. Press Enter.

  5. Click Post .

    The comment is created. When another team member will open the drawing, he will see the comment in the list.

To collapse or expand a comment thread:

  1. On the Comments palette, expand the comment thread.
  2. Type your text in the Reply field.
  3. Click Post .

To display the entities to wich the comment is attached:

  1. On the Comments palette, click for the comment thread to review.
  2. On the Comments palette, click for the comment thread to review.

To resolve a comment or a markup:

To reopen a resolved comment:

  1. On the Comments palette, click Filter & Sort and select Show resolved comments.
  2. On the Comments palette, click Filter & Sort and select Show resolved comments.
  3. Click Reopen for the comment thread to review.
  4. Click Reopen for the comment thread to review.

To reopen a resolved markup:

  1. On the Comments palette, click Filter & Sort and select Show resolved markups.
  2. On the Comments palette, click Filter & Sort and select Show resolved markups.
  3. Click Reopen for the markup to review.
  4. Click Reopen for the markup to review.

To reply to a comment:

  1. On the Comments palette, expand the comment thread.
  2. Type your text in the Reply field.
  3. Click Post .

To resolve a comment:

To delete a comment thread:

  1. On the Comments palette, click for the comment to delete.
  2. On the Comments palette, click More options for the comment to delete.
  3. Select Delete from the menu.
  4. Click Yes to confirm.

To edit a comment thread:

  1. On the Comments palette, click for the comment to edit.
  2. On the Comments palette, click More options for the comment to edit.
  3. Select Edit from the menu.

    The comment switches to the editing mode.

  4. Do the necessary changes, such as editing the title and the description.
  5. Do the necessary changes, such as:

To add stamps:

  1. On the Comments palette, click Create a new markup .

    The palette switches to stamps mode.

  2. On the Stamps area, do one:
  3. In the graphics area, specify a point.

    The stamp appears on the drawing.

To add a voice recording:

  1. On the Comments palette, click Create a new markup .
  2. Click Voice Recordings.
  3. The Voice Recordings dialog box is then displayed allowing you to enter text and/or to record your voice.

    Use the recorder buttons to record and audio Voice Recording.

    In the Voice Recording dialog box are four audio controls: record, play, pause and stop. Selecting the record control will record audio until the stop control is pressed. Each new recording completely removes the previous recording. You may playback a recording by selecting the play control. When recording or playing back audio, the pause and stop controls can be used as needed.

  4. Once a voice note is entered, select OK.

To add a picture recording:

  1. On the Comments palette, click Create a new markup .
  2. Click Picture Recording.

    The picture recording stamp appears attached to the mouse pointer.

  3. In the graphics area, specify a point.
  4. In the dialog box, select an image and click Open.

    The picture recording appears on the Comments palette.

  5. Optionally, click Add images to add more images to the picture recording.

    Use the Next and Previous buttons to browse between images.

  6. Click Post .

Searching for Comments and Markups

In drawings with many comments you can search for a specific comment if you know a portion of the description. Type substrings and use wildcards to reduce the number of displayed comments.

Additionally, you can sort the comments and markups according to the available options:
