Creating, Renaming, Removing and Activating Layers

Use the Layers Manager to create, rename, remove Layers and set the active Layer.

Button Description
Creates a new Layer.
Deletes the selected Layers.
Activates the selected Layers.

Creating Layers

You can create a new Layer any time. For efficiency, it is recommended that you plan Layers in advance.

To create Layers:

  1. In the Layers Manager dialog box, click New Layer .

    A new Layer is added to the list.

  2. In the Name column, type the Layer Name and press Enter.

    The name identifies Layers, and can be up to 255 characters long. You can use numbers, letters, and some punctuation: dollar sign ($), hyphen (-), underline (_), and spaces. Two Layers cannot have the same name in the same drawing. There is no limit to the number of Layer names in drawings.

  3. Set the properties of the new Layer in each column.

Deleting Layers

You can delete unused Layers.

You cannot delete the following Layers:

To delete Layers:

  1. In the Layers Manager dialog box, select a Layer.
  2. Click Delete Layer .

    The Layer is marked for deletion when the Status changes to .

  3. Repeat step 2 to delete other Layers.
  4. Click .

    The Layers marked for deletion are erased.

Setting the Active Layer

One Layer in each drawing is the Active Layer.

To set the active Layer:

  1. In the Layers Manager dialog box, select a Layer.
  2. Click Activate Layer .

    - or -

    Double-click the Status cell of the Layer you want active.

    The Status changes to .

Renaming Layers

You can rename existing Layers.

To rename Layers:

  1. Do one of the following:
  2. Double-click the Name cell of the Layer to rename.
  3. Type the new name and press Enter.
